I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for the Nassau Bay City Council. As a resident of this beautiful waterfront community for 17 years, I am deeply committed to its future and am eager to work alongside you to ensure that Nassau Bay continues to thrive.
Throughout my time here, I have been fortunate to witness firsthand the progress that has been made in areas such as infrastructure, beautification, and code enforcement. However, I know that there is still much work to be done, and I am eager to contribute my skills and experience to help move our community forward.
As a Nauticat parent, licensed foster parent, realtor, and volunteer, I have had the opportunity to engage with many members of our community and have gained a deep appreciation for the unique challenges and opportunities that we face. I believe that my diverse background, coupled with my passion for Nassau Bay, makes me an ideal candidate for City Council.
I am running for this position because I believe that we can do great things together. I want to ensure that our community remains a safe, attractive, and vibrant place for families to live, work, and play. I am proud to call Nassau Bay my home, and I look forward to working with all of you to make it an even better place.
I plan to ensure that our community continues to thrive and improve. I believe that by focusing on the following areas, we can create a better future for all residents:
• Fiscal responsibility: I will work to manage our finances responsibly so that we can invest in first responders, city staff, infrastructure upgrades, and flood mitigation efforts to protect our community.
• Code Enforcement: We need better code enforcement. I heard you and I agree. People are concerned about dilapidated apartments, abandoned cars, vacant houses, illegal construction without permits, too many cars at the gas station on Upper Bay and Short-Term Rentals knowingly being allowed to operate without a city permit. This Council has elevated Code Enforcement and I want to be that next vote on Council to place real teeth into Code Enforcement.
• Enhancing safety: We live in a safe suburb and need to resist becoming ‘Houston’. I will stop the efforts from the past to densify the city with more apartments or make us live next to buildings taller than we will like. My opponent has been endorsed and promoted by the people who continue to promote apartment development or zoning that would allow for multiple houses on existing residential lot and zero setbacks. We need to tear down and repurpose our old, out of code apartments. I want to be the next vote on Council to make sure this zoning and development that would change the character of our city stays dead.
• Preserving our suburban character: I will push back against efforts to build more dense housing and apartments and will work to preserve our suburban character.
• Recognizing our space heritage: Our space heritage is important to who we are as Nassau Bay and critical for us to leverage tourism. I helped launch this history and revitalization by serving on the Subcommittee that brought us Moon-Trees and refurbished several of our memorials to space achievements/astronaut recognition. Many do not know that the City, over the last 10 years, has sold or lost space memorabilia from our past. I want to be the next vote on Council that preserves our heritage and promote us as the ‘Home of Astronauts’.
• Expanding recreation options: I will work to expand recreation options for residents, including parks improvements, ADA accessibility, new playground equipment, baseball renovations, and community events. I am particularly proud of the restoration of Founders Park and look forward to bringing the Astros World Series Trophy and Orbit to Nassau Bay for opening season.
• Attracting development that benefits residents: I will work to attract development that benefits residents, such as quaint restaurants and shops, rather than more gas stations and fast-food restaurants.
• Beautifying the Community: We have made great progress this year in beautifying our community back to the levels it was in the past. Everyone has expressed concern about property values if we stop reinvesting into our neighborhood and deferring maintenance. I helped lead the Parks Committee to remove all the dead plants across the city, plant over 3,500 new flowers and painted the wall on Point Lookout. We trimmed trees, painted curbs, repaired sidewalks, and I rolled up my sleeves to help. I will push for regular maintenance for tree trimming, street sweeping, curb repair and power washing. Our city needs to be taken care of and I want to be the next vote on Council to push that forward.
• Fostering transparency and community input: I will work to foster transparency and community input so that residents are informed and have a voice in decisions impacting the community. I believe that by focusing on these priorities, we can create a better future for Nassau Bay.
I am running for this position because I believe that we can do great things together. I want to ensure that our community remains a safe, attractive, and vibrant place for families to live, work, and play. I am proud to call Nassau Bay my home, and I look forward to working with all of you to make it an even better place.
As your representative on the City Council, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our community remains a great place to call home.
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to earning your vote.
